Russian rookie Alex Gogolev had a career high four points (2g 2a) as the Calgary Hitmen beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Scotiabank Saddledome. Gogolev now has seven points (3g 4a) in his last two games.
The Hitmen used a strong start to springboard them to victory building a 3-0 lead less than 12 minutes into the opening period. Lethbridge did cut the deficit to 3-2 before the end of the first period, but any thoughts of a comeback were wiped out when Calgary added two more second period goals and another marker in the third period.
On the day 12 different Hitmen recorded at least a single point as Trevor Cheek, Victor Rask, Jimmy Bubnick and Dany Gayle also scored in the win. Brandon Glover turned in a strong performance in the Hitmen net making 29 saves, including 15 in the third period to pick up the win.
Calgary went 3-5 on the powerplay while killing all three Lethbridge chances. The Hitmen are now back to the .500 mark at 9-9-1-1. After starting the season 1-4-0-1 Calgary has gone 8-5-1-0 in their last 15 games.
The Hitmen are now idle until Saturday night when they kick off another stretch of six games in eight days as they welcome the Prince Albert Raiders to Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
