Brandon 5 Calgary 2

Brandon, MB – The Brandon Wheat Kings scored four unanswered goals en-route to a 5-2 home ice win over the Calgary Hitmen Friday night.

Brenden Walker opened the scoring for the Wheat Kings midway through the first period before Calgary rallied on a pair of shorthanded goals 40 seconds apart from Trevor Cheek and Joey Kornelsen to take a 2-1 lead.  Hitmen rookie forward Calder Brooks help set up the Kornelsen goal to extend his point scoring streak to three games.

The Wheat Kings tied the game in the second period when Ryan Pulock struck on the powerplay.

In the third period Brandon grabbed the lead scoring just 18 seconds into the final frame when Ottawa Senators prospect Mark Stone picked up a rebound.  Calgary Flames prospect Michael Ferland, who finished the night with four points (1g 3a), then added an insurance goal just past the eight minute mark scoring on the powerplay.

Walker, with his second goal of the night, rounded out the Wheat Kings scoring attack with an empty net marker.

Both teams finished the game with 27 shots on goal.

Calgary is now 6-8-0-1 on the season.  They return to action Saturday night in Regina before heading to Moose Jaw Sunday and Swift Current Tuesday.
