Team Black posts win in Hitmen Intra-Squad game

Jake Virtanen scored twice, including once into an empty net, as Team Black beat Team White 6-4 in Tuesday's Intra-Squad game marking an end to training camp.

The Hitmen will now play a six game exhiition schedule with only one game in Calgary (Sept. 7th vs. RD @ WinSport).  It all begins Saturday, September 1st at the 6th Annual Edmonton Oil Kings Pre-Season Tournament in St. Albert when the Hitmen face the Medicine Hat Tigers at Servus Credit Union Place.  Game time is 3:00 p.m.  The tournament wraps up Sunday at 3:00 p.m. when Calgary meets Swift Current.

The Calgary Hitmen main camp roster has been cut from four teams down to three leaving 62 players divided into three teams.  In Monday's first scrimmage (2-30 min periods with the last 10 mins of period two stop time) a shootout was needed to decide the winner.  Here is the summary

Junior Hockey Junies Golf Tournament

I just talked to Santa from the Junior Hockey Junkies and this is the last weekend to sign up for their upcoming golf tournament.  Here is the info!

Hitmen Main Camp Fitness Test

Calgary Hitmen Main Camp kicked off Friday night with registration and fitness testing.  Over 50 players were tested in five different categories conducted by Hitmen strength and conditioning coach Sean Hope-Ross and the National Sports Development staff.  They included the following:  155lb Bench Press, Chin Ups, Curl Ups, Broad Jump and Beep-Test.

Scrimmages begin Sunday morning at 8:30 with a total of 81 players split into four teams.  I'll be at all main camp scrimmages posting scoring summaries.

All on-ice sessions, including the Intra-Squad Game, are free and open to the public. Rosters will be available at the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex.

Hitmen Rookies Fitness Tested

Calgary Hitmen Rookie Camp kicked off Thursday night with registration and fitness testing for the rookies.

A total of 79 player (age 15 and 16) were tested in five different categories.  They included the following:  135lb Bench Press, Chin Ups, Curl Ups, Broad Jump and Beep-Test.

Updated: Calgary Hitmen Training Camp Schedule

Are you ready for some hockey?

The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club will open their 2012 Training Camp on Thursday, August 23 at the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex, 5206 - 68 Street NE. 

Over 70 prospects are expected to attend the six-day camp that will include on-ice practice sessions and games, fitness testing and goalie development. 

The week will be highlighted by the annual Calgary Hitmen Intra-Squad Game which takes place on Tuesday, August 28 beginning at 11:00 a.m.

All on-ice training camp sessions, including the annual Intra-Squad Game, are free and open to the public. 

Rosters will be available at the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex.
