The number one overall pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft will make his Calgary Hitmen debut tomorrow night when the club begins its post Christmas schedule in Prince George against the Cougars.
15-year-old Jake Virtanen will wear #18 in his Hitmen regular season debut. The speedy forward from Abbotsford, BC had two points (1g 1a) in two pre-season games.
This season Virtanen is in the BC Major Midget League with the Fraser Valley Bruins where he leads the team in scoring with 33 points (14g 19a) in 24 games. He's also tied for ninth in overall league scoring.
Virtanen has already been named to the 2012 Major Midget League All Star Game that will be played on January 13. Some notable BC Major Midget League graduates who have competed in the All Star Game include:
