Hitmen edge 'Canes to move above .500

Lethbridge, AB - The Calgary Hitmen pumped 44 shots on goal en-route to a 5-3 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes Wednesday night at Enmax Centre.

The Hitmen spread around the offense getting goals from five different players; Pavel Padakin, Greg Chase, Jaynen Rissling, Ben Thomas and Zane Jones.

Thomas netted the game winner, breaking a 3-3 third period tie with just under 11 minutes remaining.

Kenton Helgesen had a pair of assists for Calgary while Terrell Draude also had an assist for his first point in the Western Hockey League in his first WHL game.

Chris Driedger made 25 saves to pick up the win in goal helping Calgary improve to 2-1 on the young season.

The Hitmen return to Scotiabank Saddledome Friday night to host the Kootenay Ice in the start of a home-and-home series. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

On Friday the Hitmen are recognizing the ongoing flood relief efforts of the Calgary community and Southern Alberta by encouraging fans to wear rubber boots to the game to receive a $12 ticket (plus applicable fees). Discounted tickets are only available in person at the Scotiabank Saddledome box office on game day. In addition, 50/50 funds from Friday's Flood Support Game will be directed to the Calgary Foundation in support of flood rebuilding projects.
