Jake Virtanen scored three goals on three shots in the first period as the Calgary Hitmen beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-3 Sunday evening at Scotiabank Saddledome.
The hat trick was the first of the young WHL career for Virtanen who achieved the mark in his 83rd career regular season game.
Brady Brassart scored twice for Calgary while Josh Thrower added an empty net goal to help vault the Hitmen to the top of the Eastern Conference Standings with 17 points.
Since starting the season 3-3, the Hitmen have gone on a 5-0-0-1 run.
Radel Fazleev and Kenton Helgesen both had a pair of goals for Calgary in a game played on pink ice in the annual Hitmen Fight Cancer Game.
Jersey's worn during the game will be sold in an online auction in the new year with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Prairies/NWT Region.
