Calgary 5 Edmonton 2

The Calgary Hitmen are back on top the WHL's Eastern Conference Standings.  The Hitmen moved back into the penthouse Friday night with a 5-2 win in Edmonton over the Oil Kings.

Calgary, now 11-1-0-1 on the road this season, leads the conference by one point over Prince Albert and the Central Division by two points over Edmonton.

It was a come-from-behind win for the visitors who spotted the Oil Kings a 2-0 first period lead.  At one point in the opening frame Edmonton had an 11-1 lead on the shot clock but the Hitmen survived the surge and escaped the first period trailing only 2-1 as Cody Sylvester notched his 17th goal of the season.

In a strange twist in the second period the Hitmen pulled even as Carson Samoridny converted on the rarely seen 3-on-1 shorthanded rush.

Zane Jones then scored a pair of third period goals to give Calgary the lead, capped by an empty net goal off the stick of Pavlo Padakin.

Calgary now 20-6-1-2 will host Edmonton tonight at Scotiabank Saddledome in the rematch.

Fans are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Calgary Food Bank.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.
