Calgary 4 Edmonton 1

Edmonton, AB - The Calgary Hitmen improved to 3-0 on the young Western Hockey League season with a 4-1 win on the road in Edmonton against the defending champion Oil Kings Friday night.

The Hitmen got goals from four different players while Chris Driedger made 34 saves to pick up the win.


Pavlo Padakin, with his first career goal in the WHL, scored the lone marker of the first period to give Calgary the lead.

Greg Chase then extended the Hitmen lead to 2-0 early in the second period before TJ Foster pulled the Oil Kings to within one before the end of the middle frame.

Brady Brassart restored Calgary’s two goal lead early in the third period while Carson Samoridny put the game away scoring his first career WHL goal into an empty net.

Edmonton outshot Calgary 35-34.  The Hitmen went 1-5 on the powerplay while killing all five Edmonton
chances. 

The Hitmen are back in action tomorrow night when they host Minnesota Wild first round pick Matt Dumba and the Red Deer Rebels.  Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome.
