Main Camp Fitness Testing - August 28, 2011

The Calgary Hitmen opened Main Camp this evening at Don Hartman North East Sportsplex (5206-68th Street NE) with fitness testing.  All returning players plus a number camp invites were put through a series of five tests conducted by Hitmen Strength and Conditioning Coach Sean Hope-Ross and the rest of his staff from NSD.

Listed below are the top performers in each category:

155lbs Bench Press: Cody Danylchuk 28 reps
Chin-Ups to Fatigue: Cody Sylvester 21 reps
Broad Jump:  Brooks Macek 2.61 meters
Beep Test: Victor Rask, Jimmy Bubnick, Keegan Thompson all to stage 13
Sit-Ups to Fatigue: Jaynen Rissling 130

A couple items of note from today

1.  Both 2011 Hitmen CHL Import picks are in Calgary and attending main camp; 18-year-old Victor Rask the Carolina Hurricanes second round pick from Sweden and 19-year-old Alexander Gogolev from Russia.
2.  40 rookies have been invited to main camp, including several 15-year-olds who are too young to play full time in the WHL this season.  Among them is 2011 number one overall selection Jake Virtanen.  Coupled with main camp invites there 83 players who have been split into four teams who will scrimmage against each other starting at 8:30 Monday morning.  The first round of cuts will come tomorrow.
