The Kootenay Ice scored three unanswered third period goals in a 3-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen Tuesday night at Western Financial Place.
After a scoreless first period which saw the Hitmen kill five Kootenay powerplays, Calgary’s Jake Virtanen produced the lone goal of the second period.
His ninth goal of the season was Virtanen’s 14th point in 18 games to start the season.
However Kootenay tied the game early in the third period on a powerplay marker from Jaedon Descheneau before Jon Martin added a pair of even strength goals.
Calgary finished with 39 shots but Mackenzie Skapski and Wyatt Hoflin combined to make 38 saves. Skapski left the game after the first period with an apparent lower body injury.
Chris Driedger faced 32 shots in the Hitmen net, making 29 saves.
The Ice finished the game 1-9 on the powerplay while the Hitmen went 0-4.
Kootenay improves to 9-7-2-0 while Calgary falls to 10-5-1-2.
