Regina 3 Calgary 2

Matt Hewitt made 32 saves in a first star performance as the visiting Regina Pats edged the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 Friday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Hitmen built a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes on a goal from Trevor Cheek outshooting Regina 11-4 in the process.

In the second period Jordan Weal scored and Lane Scheidl scored back-to-back goals to give the Pats the lead.  Regina then extended the lead to 3-1 on the eventual game winner from Matt Marantz 6:38 into the third period.

Victor Rask with his team leading 16th goal of the season would pull the Hitmen to within a goal on a two man advantage with just under eight minutes remaining but Calgary would get no closer thanks to Hewitt's work in the Pats net.

The 19-year-old puck stopped made two brilliant saves in the final 15 seconds, one off Brooks Macek and a second off Alex Gogolev to preserve the win.

Regina moves two points ahead of Calgary in the battle for seventh in the Eastern Conference.
