Calgary at Saskatoon

After a day off Thursday, the Calgary Hitmen play their thrid game in four days tonight in Saskatoon against the Blades.  Radio Broadcast on Sportsnet 960 The Fan starts at 6:00 p.m. with a a five minute Mr. Fireplace Hitmen Warm-up.

THE STANDINGS:  Calgary is 33-14-1-3, sitting third in the WHL's Eastern Conference with 70 points.  Saskatoon, the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup host, is 25-21-0-3.  At 53 points they are tied for seventh in the conference with 53 points.


HEAD-TO-HEAD:  Saskatoon leads the season series 1-0 after a 4-0 win at the Saddledome on November 30th.  The Blades outshot the Hitmen 38-25 and got a shutout performance from two time Russian World Junior goalie Andrey Makarov.

300 CLUB:  Brooks Macek will play his 300th regular season game in the Western Hockey League tonight in Saskatoon.  The 20-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba is in his fifth season.  After playing his first 170 games with the Tri-City Americans Macek arrived in Calgary at the January 2010 Trade Deadline.  The right winger has 80 goals 154 assists for 234 points in 299 career games.

STREAKIN’: Cody Sylvester (3g 5a), Victor Rask (2g2a), Greg Chase (1g 3a) and Zane Jones (1g 3a) are all on four game point scoring streaks.  Calder Brooks (2a) has points in back-to-back games.  Brooks Macek (1g 2a) had his three game streak end Wednesday in Swift Current.  Mack Shields is 2-0 in his last two starts stopping 40 of 42 shots for a .952 save percentage.

BATTLE OF THE BROTHERS:  The Calgary roster includes 16-year-old Josh Thrower while his 19-year-old brother Dalton is a member of the Saskatoon Blades.

HOME AND AWAY:  Calgary is 17-6-0-1 on the road while Saskatoon is 10-11-0-2 at home.
