Brandon 6 Calgary 2

The Brandon Wheat Kings snapped a 2-2 second period tie scoring four unanswered goals en route to a 6-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen Thursday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.

The win gives Brandon a 1-0 lead in the Best-of-Seven Eastern Conference Quarter-Final Series with Game 2 tomorrow night (Friday 7:00 p.m.) in Calgary.

Darian Dziurzynski scored twice for the visitors while Mark Stone, Michael Ferland and Alessio Bertaggia all chipped in a goal and an assist.  Corbin Boes was solid in the Wheat Kings net making 34 saves to pick up the win.

After falling behind 2-0 midway through the first period, the Hitmen bounced back to tie the game on goals from Brooks Macek and Alex Gogolev.

But any thoughts of a Calgary comeback were wiped out when Brandon scored twice 32 seconds apart in the third period to turn a 3-2 lead into 5-2.

The Hitmen played without the services of two of their top three scorers, Cody Sylvester and Victor Rask, who are both listed as game time decisions for tomorrow's Game 2.
